Compression Depth and the Behavior of Cellular
نویسنده
چکیده
A computable complexity measure analogous to computational depth is developed using the Lempel-Ziv compression algorithm. This complexity measure, which we call compression depth, is then applied to the computational output of cellular automata. We nd that compression depth captures the complexity found in Wolfram Class III celluar automata, and is in good agreement with his classi cation scheme. We further investigate the rule space of cellular automata using Langton's parameter. This research was supported in part by National Science Foundation Grant CCR-9157382, with matching funds from Rockwell, Microware Systems Corporation, and Amoco Foundation.

Behavior of Model Circular Footings on Silty Soils with Cellular Supports
An experimental study of the effect of silt and influence of cell confinement on the bearing capacity of circular footings on silty sand was carried out. Laboratory experiments on clean sand and sand containing silt up to 25 % were performed. Cells with different heights and diameters were used to confine the silty sand. The effect of proportion of silt in sand, cell diameter, cell height and t...

متن کاملPlanelet Transform: A New Geometrical Wavelet for Compression of Kinect-like Depth Images
With the advent of cheap indoor RGB-D sensors, proper representation of piecewise planar depth images is crucial toward an effective compression method. Although there exist geometrical wavelets for optimal representation of piecewise constant and piecewise linear images (i.e. wedgelets and platelets), an adaptation to piecewise linear fractional functions which correspond to depth variation ov...
متن کاملMechanical properties of CNT reinforced nano-cellular polymeric nanocomposite foams
Mechanics of CNT-reinforced nano-cellular PMMA nanocomposites are investigated using coarse-grained molecular dynamics simulations. Firstly, static uniaxial stretching of bulk PMMA polymer is simulated and the results are compared with literature. Then, nano-cellular foams with different relative densities are constructed and subjected to static uniaxial stretching and obtained stress-strain cu...
متن کاملThe Effect of Fe Additive on Plastic Deformation for Crush-Boxes with Closed-Cell Metal Foams, Part II: Al-Composite Foam-Filled brass tubes Compression Response
The brass tubes with foam cores of AlSi7SiC3, AlSi7SiC3Fe1 and AlSi7SiC3Fe3 were produced as the crush-boxes with circle and square cross-section. Then axial compressive behavior and energy absorption capability of the foam-filled tubes were investigated during the quasi-static progressive plastic buckling. The uniaxial compressive stress–strain curves of the foam-filled brass tubes exhibited t...
متن کاملParameter Study of GTN Model in a SLM Manufactured Lattice Structure under Compression by Using FEM
This study investigates the effect of material parameters of the Gurson-Tvergaard-Needleman (GTN) model on the failure prediction of cellular structures. The effect of elastic modulus, calibration parameter of GTN model, isotropic hardening, fracture strain, and strut diameter on the load-displacement curve of a lattice structure fabricated by Selective Laser Melting (SLM) has been studied by u...
